ARTIST NOTES: Troubled Waters by Rosemary Legat - Acrylic paint and acrylic ink on stretched canvas. Exploring expressive line and movement through brushstrokes and mark making on my canvas in black paint followed by another intuitive layer of the same free and bold application of paint. This time in white. As I was applying my white layer thoughts of huge rolling, crashing waves out at sea started filling my mind which led me to choose watery blues and greens for the following layers to soften the darkness still peeking through the white and to help bring my white markings alive. I love the movement and energy you can still feel from my earlier layers. My chosen colour palette has a calming quality which hopefully resinates with those that look. Sides of canvas painted white. Please check artwork dimensions as in situ examples are for display purposes only and may not be to scale.

ARTIST BIO

Rosemary’s artistic journey is a delightful adventure that showcases the power of creativity. From a young age, she found joy in artistic pursuits, but it wasn’t until her retirement, amid the quiet of countless covid lockdowns, that she truly reconnected with her passion for art.

With an eclectic style that celebrates whimsy, Rosemary’s paintings are a vibrant reflection of her playful spirit. Rather than sticking to a rigid plan, she lets her creativity flow, allowing each piece to reveal itself organically. As she layers colors and textures, her work takes on a life of its own, resulting in captivating pieces that invite viewers into her imaginative world.
Originally working solely with acrylics on canvas, Rosemary has since embraced an exciting variety of materials. Now, her mixed media artworks bring together paint, ink, soft pastels, oil sticks, and collage, transforming her creations into multidimensional expressions of her vision.
At the heart of Rosemary’s art is a simple yet powerful motivation: it makes her happy! The joy she feels while painting shines through in every piece she creates, and sharing that joy with others has ignited her passion even further. With numerous pieces sold and a growing audience, Rosemary is driven to continue creating and sharing her artwork, ensuring that her vibrant imagination remains a central part of her life for years to come.
